BAC Down! Give bacteria the cold shoulder. The bacterium Listeria monocyotogenes can grow at refrigerator temperatures. Keep your refrigerator at 40° F or below. Use a thermometer to monitor.

To facilitate safe produce handling education efforts, the Partnership has enhanced the existing FightBAC!® program offerings with new produce handling educational materials and community outreach ideas.

Be Food Safe
For more than 10 years the U.S. Department of Agriculture, along with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), has served as a Federal liaison to the Partnership for Food Safety Education (PFSE), the non-profit, public/private partnership that created the FightBAC!® campaign.  This national program emphasizes the four basic safe food handling behaviors:  Clean, Separate, Cook and Chill.  Subsequent USDA initiatives have all supported these messages and the Be Food Safe campaign focuses directly on these four key concepts.   

 

 

 

fightbac.org, the website of the Partnership for Food Safety Education (PFSE), is a consumer food safety resource.  Get free downloads on safe food handling information from Fight BAC!®.

The Partnership for Food Safety Education saves lives and improves public health through research-based, actionable consumer food safety initiatives that reduce foodborne illness.

PFSE unites representatives from industry associations, professional societies in food science, nutrition and health consumer groups, the United States Department of Agriculture, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Food and Drug Administration in an important initiative to educate the public about preventing foodborne illness.
