Featured Fight BAC! Story

The Washington D.C. Cooking and Entertaining Show brought notables like chef Paula Deen and wife of Vice President Joe Biden, Jill Biden, to the D.C. area this past November.  About 25,000 foodies gathered to taste cuisine, view chefs’ demonstrations, and visit vendor booths.  Virginia Polytechnic Institute nutrition graduate student Ashley Holmes attended the show with her classmates, hoping to catch some cooking demos, and was met with one more celebrity – BAC!®.  The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety Mobile brought BAC! along to hand out fliers and thermometers.

Ashley and her classmates were excited to see BAC! because they had used Fight BAC! materials in the classroom to teach safe food handling concepts. Safe food handling is important to practice because it is the one tool that everyday people have to reduce their risk of foodborne illness. Remember: Clean, Separate, Cook, and Chill.
