The Partnership for Food Safety Education Supports Health Educators

In June, the Partnership for Food Safety Education surveyed BAC Fighters to see how they use Fight BAC! materials and the level of engagement that BAC Fighters want with the Partnership. We learned a lot from the over 780 responses we received! One highlight of the survey – 98.6% of respondents viewed the Partnership as being supportive of food safety education. We also learned that a vast majority of BAC Fighters use fightbac.org. Most BAC Fighters would be interested in future webinars and other educational programming too. A majority of BAC Fighters work to educate others on the importance of safe food handling. As the Partnership works to support BAC Fighters in the field, we will use this survey to make sure we are best meeting the needs of BAC Fighters. Thank you for your work in health education towards our shared mission – to eliminate illness and death from foodborne infection in the U.S.

Melinda Houser Leads 4-H Program

Healthy Champion Challenge 2012 smaller_54fb30ac070bc279db914a474e3401fa

Melinda Houser does her part to Fight BAC by teaching kids through the North Carolina State University Cooperative Extension Health Champion Challenge. In the 4-H program she leads, kids between ages 9 to 13 learn about everything from exercise to nutrition to food safety. For the food safety portion of the program, participants learn about safe food handling with a hands-on food preparation demonstration. The kids also get to use a black light to show where all the germs are lurking in the kitchen to drive home the importance of cleaning counter tops and food preparation areas. The Partnership for Food Safety Education thanks Melinda for her work to educate others about food safety!

The National Chicken Council Debunks Myth

Rinsing Raw Poultry Does Not Remove Bacteria

The Partnership for Food Safety Education isn’t the only organization working to bust food safety myths! Recently, the National Chicken Council referenced Home Food Safety Mythbusters in their outreach to the media. The National Chicken Council noted the fact that rinsing raw poultry does not remove bacteria but can lead to cross-contamination. Never rinse raw meat or poultry products in order to prevent possible cross contamination in the sink and kitchen. Thanks to the National Chicken Council for doing their part to correct common food safety misperceptions and keep consumers healthy and informed!
