June 26, 2015

Kroger_Southwest

The Partnership for Food Safety Education worked with contributing partner Kroger to create a week- by- week Food Safety Education Month outreach plan.  We thank every participating Kroger Co. store for connecting with customers on this important topic!

Kroger’s 220 Southwest stores were excited to participate in National Food Safety Education Month Activities! Here is just a sampling of what they did to help make sure consumers took home food safety messages:

  • Fight BAC!® messages were integrated with selling strategies around products like hand soap and hand sanitizer.
  • Store managers were challenged through a contest to create in-store displays. The prizes?  Houston Texan and Texas State Fair tickets.
  • Kroger corporate provided all Southwest Kroger store merchandising teams with materials and tips in daily merchandising updates.
  • Store managers coached their store teams on Fight BAC!® food safety practices so they were prepared to answer customer questions.

Customers were happy to learn something extra about food safety when they came in to do their shopping. Thank you Kroger Co. Southwest for all of these great efforts!

Kroger Nashville Store Managers Compete for Best Food Safety Booth

June 26, 2015

The Partnership for Food Safety Education worked with contributing partner Kroger to create a week- by- week Food Safety Education Month outreach plan.  We thank every participating Kroger Co. store for connecting with customers on this important topic!

Shana Davis, Food Safety Manager for Kroger’s Nashville division caught up with us to talk about how she encouraged a little healthy competition among store managers to boost food safety education month customer engagement in their 89 Nashville area stores.

Kroger_Nashville_2

Each store was instructed to set up a food safety booth in-store and stock it with the Partnership’s s Home Food Safety Mythbusters flyers.  Store co-managers were on location to engage with customers and answer questions based on the Mythbusters information.  To encourage managers to engage, Shana set up a “best-booth” competition. The districts shared their booth pictures on the private social networking site, Yammer, for a chance to win a prize.

What amazing food safety education work from Nashville!  Thank you Shana! Shana didn’t stop there! She traveled around to stores in her division doing food safety Q&A sessions with customers. Some lucky customers were even given refrigerator and food thermometers!

Chef and Food Safety Manager Reaches Kids with Food Safety Messages

June 26, 2015

As a Kroger Food Safety Manager for the Atlanta Marketing area, as well as a Corporate Executive Chef, it is my duty to educate the consumer on food safety practices!

I have daily interaction with many customers throughout the Atlanta area. The most common need is basic food safety knowledge at home.

I have filmed segments targeting children in an effort to get them to share the knowledge with their parents and develop good food safe habits.  These segments play on WSB-TV weekly. I have also recorded PSAs that play every 30 minutes in Kroger stores. These play throughout the county in an effort to show how much we at Kroger are focused on our customers as well as food safety!

Listen to the PSAs:

Atlanta Kroger Co. Stores Add Culinary Flair to Food Safety Education

May 26, 2015

For National Food Safety Education Month, the Partnership for Food Safety Education worked with contributing partner Kroger to create a week- by- week outreach plan. We thank every participating Kroger Co. store for joining us in this effort to connect with customers on food safety in September!

Kroger’s Atlanta Division added culinary flair to safe grilling information provided by the Partnership. They offered a double dose of fun to customers: delicious recipes and useful information on food thermometers!

They transformed PFSE’s food thermometer flyer into a recipe flyer, and printed the opposite side with a deliciously tempting recipe from Kroger Chef John Szymanski.

Atlanta’s food safety manager sent 200 flyers to each Atlanta Division store – 120,000 recipe flyers in total! Both customers and store managers loved them.

Thank you Atlanta Division Kroger Stores for reminding consumers that food thermometers are a vital ingredient when preparing food at home!

Kroger Helps Michigan Shoppers Become ProducePros!

May 26, 2015

Displays and radio messages provide customers with food safety info to take home with purchases.

The Partnership for Food Safety Education worked with contributing partner Kroger to create a week- by- week Food Safety Education Month outreach plan.  We thank every participating Kroger Co. store for connecting with customers on this important topic!

With the help of their local Kroger stores, thousands of Michigan consumers took steps in September toward becoming ProducePros.

The Partnership’s ProducePro campaign is six actionable practices for consumers to enjoy fresh and safe fruits and vegetables at home. Kroger used campaign elements to create stanchion signs for set-up in all 124 Michigan Kroger stores. The stores also used in-store radio to broadcast consumer food safety tips read by a Kroger chef. What a great way to inform consumers during the shopping experience!

Some stores decided to do more, setting up food safety tables where customers could get the Partnership’s Franken BAC Drawing Contest page and free Home Food Safety Mythbusters flyers.

Thank you Michigan Kroger!
