The Poo Fighters Rock Food Safety Training in Minnesota

April 4, 2016

Great! Unique way to present info!

Fun and kept my attention for the whole time!

Very entertaining as well as informational.

I teach food safety/cooking classes at the center for independent living and this will be very helpful.

These raves were for the Minnesota Departpoo fighter brochure coverment of Health’s Poo Fighters 2015 food safety multi-state sold-out “tour”.

The department’s Sarah Leach used the clever Poo Fighters Band Tour theme to weave together training modules for instructors of certified food manager courses:

*The Band – human and economic burden, pathogen biology, symptoms, treatment

* Event Staff – foodborne illness risk factors, person in charge/certified food manager  roles

* Poo Fighters Diarrhea & Vomit Tour – foodborne illness hotline, number of outbreaks

* Classic Hits – historic or well-known outbreaks

* New Releases – recent outbreaks

* Summary, Q & A – review and extend learning, self-correct and discuss quiz

Attendees acquired resources and skills for educating colleagues and the public on the topics of foodborne illness reporting and investigation in Minnesota. Sessions improved knowledge of foodborne illness and dispelled myths about transmission. The presentations used real-life examples from familiar settings to bring scientific facts and regulatory requirements to life.

Sarah LeachSarah Leach is the creator and “band” promoter of the “Poo Fighters” Tour. She is also a Registered Environmental Health Specialist/Registered Sanitarian, and the Principal State Food Manager Certification Program Coordinator for the Minnesota Department of Health. BAC Fighter takes food preservation classes online

June 26, 2015

Suzanne

Suzanne Driessen, a BAC Fighter with University of Minnesota Extension works online to make sure food is safe from farm to plate!

The renewed interest to grow and purchase local foods quadrupled requests for University of Minnesota Extension food preservation classes. To meet the increased demand with limited human resource capacity, Suzanne Driessen, Food Safety Extension Educator, created 22 five-minute online Food Preservation Mini-Modules. More than 10,246 home preservers have viewed modules. Viewership is global with viewers from Australia, Canada and Germany.

100% of participants indicate use of Internet technology is a good way to receive food preservation information.

Voices of BAC! Fighters

February 26, 2015

teacher

Allow us to introduce you to three BAC! Fighters who work hard to teach kids about food safety. We have been hearing from educators about their interest in new and refreshed Fight BAC!® educational material for kids.

Melissa is an enthusiastic middle school teacher from New Mexico that uses Fight BAC!® to make sure her sixth grade students are safe from foodborne illness. Her sixth grade students are like sponges, she says, and would love new materials for her students.

Devoted community nutrition educator, Denise, from Minnesota, reaches over 500 kids in 3rd to 5th grade with Fight BAC!® materials and is always interested in new, evidence-based material for her students.

Dana, a passionate educator from Texas, uses Fight BAC!® materials in middle and high school because it catches her students’ attention and would like updated materials to keep their interest.

Fight BAC!® materials for students have been in the field since 1998.

In response to demonstrated need by educators for new materials for kids, the Partnership is seeking partners for support of a new campaign in 2013- the BAC! Fighters National Youth Campaign.

Please consider making a year-end charitable contribution that supports educators like Melissa, Denise, and Dana in their efforts to end foodborne illness in America.
